BLOGSCAN - "Dangerous Ideas"
On The Torch, the blog sponsored by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), is this post about Steven Pinker's article on the concept of "dangerous ideas," i.e., “statements of fact or policy that are defended with evidence and argument by serious scientists and thinkers but which are felt to challenge the collective decency of an age.” There seem to be a lot of dangerous ideas in health care, including the notion, a la Transparency International's 2006 Global Report, that corruption is a common, systemic, and important problem in health care world-wide. Their dangerousness seems to lead to the anechoic effect.
